Most Common Types of Employment Discrimination Cases

Discrimination is one of the foulest things someone can experience, especially since it’s something that’s usually lobbied against a part of someone’s identity that can’t be changed. Unfortunately, employment, something we all need to afford to live comfortably, is one of the largest ways people are discriminated against.

Here are the largest forms of employment discrimination and what it’s like for the people going through it.

Race Discrimination

Our races are something irrefutable that comes from the DNA of our parents. But unfortunately, America has a long history of treating specific races better than others. This leaves everyone else at a disadvantage and steals their ability to live and work their careers in comfort. Race discrimination makes it so that people are paid less or not allowed jobs.

Pregnancy Discrimination

Pregnancy is just a temporary part of life. Yet, many jobs will refuse to hire a pregnant person because they don’t like the idea of this person leaving the job after a month or two to have the baby, and they assume that means they’ll be in the way or an inconvenience. This stops pregnant people from being able to help support their families.

Disability Discrimination

Disabled people are constantly discriminated against in the workforce. The classic ‘must be able to lift fifty pounds’ line of hiring applications is there to explicitly stop disabled people from applying, even though most of these jobs are desk-bound and don’t require lifting of any kind.

Gender Discrimination

Gender discrimination is another well-documented type of discrimination in the USA that stops people from getting a job or equal pay because of the gender they were born as or transitioned to. Unfortunately, many people don’t assume this is a problem anymore, even though it’s a massive issue.

Age Discrimination

Age discrimination can go both ways. Older people are less likely to get hired: but younger people are far less likely to get promoted to higher-up positions. So it hurts all generations and makes it so that if they don’t get into a role when they’re young, they may never get into a higher position.

Sexual Orientation Discrimination

Sexual orientation discrimination is the refusal to hire, promote, or fairly pay an individual based on their sexual orientation. Again, this is another protected status that can’t be changed and shouldn’t be discriminated against.

Religious Discrimination

One of the less common reasons for employment discrimination cases: but still just as important, is that religious discrimination is a big reason some people aren’t hired or promoted. If people don’t feel like they can agree on their religious beliefs, they don’t want to work closely with one another, and this can cause major issues. Religion is something that most people are brought up in, and in ethno religions like Judaism, it ties into race as well.

Nobody Deserves Any Form of Discrimination

Everyone should have a safe and secure workplace and feel respected by their employer and coworkers. Unfortunately, this isn’t possible for everyone, and we all have to make changes that can allow this to happen: as companies and as individuals.
