As per the latest CBSE syllabus of class 10, Physics will carry a total of 25 marks in the 80 marks board exam, along with 25 marks in chemistry and 30 marks in biology. Unit 3 and 4 of your science books cover all physics chapters. Unit 3 or Natural Phenomena carries 12 marks and Unit 4 or Effects of Current carries 13 marks. You can go through the previous years’ question papers of Class 10 board exams to understand the question pattern and content. You will also get an idea about how many questions would come from each chapter through this practice. Look through the syllabus again and again throughout the session and calculate mentally how much is covered in your school, by your tutor, and during your self-study, and how much is left. Be honest with yourself because your preparation ahead will be hampered otherwise if you rush to complete the syllabus anyhow without studying the chapters enough to understand properly. Even if you have completed your syllabus in the classroom, give more importance to how much you have learned and where you falter.

For that, you will require a thorough understanding of the concepts. Keep a notebook to jot down every formula. Check them weekly, and keep adding new formulas as you learn them. This notebook will help especially before the exam. You will get plenty of them in chapters like reflection & refraction of light and electric current. The best way to recall all the formulas is to practice as many numerical as possible that are based on these formulas. You will also need to remember diagrams for some concepts like generator, magnetic field’ ray diagrams, the human eye, etc. Emphasize the important topics. Write the answers to the chapters you have already completed and solve numerical from time to time.

Revision is the key:-

It does not matter however systematically you study physics throughout the session, if you do not revise scientifically before the exam, all your efforts will go into vain. So give extra effort to physics before your class 10 board exam. Go through the revision notes, again and again in your free time. The physics portion of the class 10 science syllabus is vast and you need to invest at least an hour every day if you wish to score full marks in it. Try to finish your syllabus by the end of December and set aside half an hour for revision only.

NCERT is a must-read for you:-

NCERT books cover the whole syllabus of the class 10 CBSE board exam. Maximum questions in the exam are asked from it only. So you cannot and must not avoid reading it. The language is simple, so is the explanation of concepts. So it is always advised to start your preparation with the NCERTs. After your concepts get clear, you might refer to other books as well. Do not neglect the numerical and practice questions of NCERT physics. Read the solved questions thoroughly too. You should also refer to the NCERT Science class 10 solutions and download them for reading offline to get ideas about answer writing.

Be confident during the exam:-

The goal of all your hard work and efforts throughout the year is to do your best in the exam. Getting nervous during the exam can waste all your preparation, so you need to be steady. Get adequate sleep the night before your exam and stay hydrated. Write answers, in short, crisp sentences. Do not drag a point unnecessarily. Make sure you only write the points which are asked in the question and not irrelevant details. Nothing can be worse for a student than leaving a known question due to lack of time and losing marks. Practice previous years’ problems in stipulated time so that you do not face this problem. Even if your handwriting is not good, try to make it legible at least. Make sure your answer script looks neat and clean throughout. Remember not to study any new topic the day before your exam.

There is one additional tip for your overall science preparation- do not neglect any of its subdivisions. You might be scared of physics and that is why you want to study it more than biology or chemistry, but do not abandon them. Chemistry carries equal marks and biology carries more marks than physics in the science exam. So it is a must to have a  balance in your preparation. These preparation tips will help you to ace your exam with confidence for sure.
