User’s Guide On How to Dress A Wound At Home!

Wounds, as painful as they can be, need to be correctly treated and addressed to prevent further infection, which could worsen the existing damage. Wounds can range everything from open cuts to burns.

For proper wound care in Humble, here’s a very easy step-by-step guide for addressing wounds and treating them in order to prevent further infection.

  • Run the wound through clean water: Whether a burn or outright cut, run it through room temperature water, although cold water is preferable. This ensures the wound is kept clean.
  • Use ointments: Use a non-abrasive antibacterial ointment to help keep the wound moisture-free. This prevents the wound from being a breeding ground for these infectious microbes. Spread a thin layer over the wound. Do note that some ointments may have contents with allergic properties.
  • Bandages: Make use of a bandage if the wound comes in contact with foreign objects like clothing, etc. If the bandage adhesive is irritating the skin, use plain gauze and paper tape.
  • Surgical wounds: When recovering from surgical injuries like staples or stitches, change the bandage dressing daily, or per the doctors’ instructions. Do keep an eye out for any pus-forming or rupturing of the stitches or staples and contact a medical professional in such cases immediately.
  • Animal bites and scratches: Animals come into contact with so many surfaces and therefore are carriers of so many pathogens. If you get an animal bite or scratch, wash the wound with gentle soap and clean water. A fever or rise in body temperature after such a bite or scratch needs to be addressed by a medical professional as soon as possible.

  • Seek medical help: In case the wound doesn’t show signs of healing, there’s a spike in temperature, excessive bleeding, cuts more than half an inch, or wounds from a rusted object, seek the attention of a medical professional.
